Located in the magnificent Waterberg Mountains, Makweti Safari Lodge is a
hidden gem in the heart of Welgevonden Game Reserve.
Constructed from natural rock with teak decks overhanging the dramatic
Makweti Gorge, the lodge is surrounded by giant euphorbia which lends a
surreal, ancient atmosphere to the camp.
Rare African art, stylish furnishings, rich woods, leather and woven
textures create an elegant and comfortable atmosphere in the lodge.
New furnishings blend typical African safari style with a contemporary
artistic flair. The Indaba Lounge overlooks a waterhole frequented by game
and is an ideal spot to read or simply watch the mysteries of the bush
unfold.
Set away from the main lodge, the five stone and freshly thatched suites
are individually decorated with antique treasures and plush furnishings,
complete with a Victorian bathroom and outside shower. Attention to detail
is paramount with fine linens and luxury pamper products to replenish body
and soul. Private plunge pools have been constructed on three of the suite
decks; perfect for indulgent lazy afternoons.
A proud member of Chaine des Rotisseurs, Makweti offers a fine dining
experience, combining the rich spices of the ancient trade routes with
modern gourmet trends and complimented by an extensive selection of South
African estate wines. Candlelit dinners are served in the dining room,
privately, or beside a flickering fire in the boma.
