The Official Welgevonden Game Reserve Website

Welgevonden Game Reserve lies in the Waterberg plateau,
just north of Johannesburg, South Africa.
Our guests enjoy unlimited traversing through the 34,850ha reserve and experience an environment where biodiversity conservation and game viewing are managed in harmony.

Kololo Game Reserve

Kololo Game Reserve, in the heart of the malaria free Waterberg Mountains, takes up a unique position together with the Welgevonden Private Game Reserve. Part of Kololo’s 3000 hectares is incorporated into Welgevonden where the big five can be spotted. The remainder of Kololo is situated in an area with “safe” game, affording guests the opportunity to safely stay, walk, hike and bike amongst giraffe, kudu, red hartebeest, impala, bush buck, blesbuck and more. This makes Kololo the ultimate safari destination, particularly for families with children.

Kololo Game Reserve offers 14 chalets and villas, from 2-person chalets to 6-person Bush Villas, to our Deluxe Kings Villa with private pool and boma. All chalets and villas are built in African style with thatched roofs, verandas, private barbecues, some with outside showers and a private pool. Interior decoration is tastefully created with natural materials in African colours. Wifi is available in all villas, reception and restaurant, however mobile connection is only available at reception.

Kololo’s restaurant boasts two decks, overlooking pristine African bush. Relax at the pool, enjoy a drink from the bar or watch the sun go down over Welgevonden. Sit at the open fire and let our chef make your dining experience unforgettable.

There are many ways to see the beautiful nature of Kololo/Welgevonden. You can either walk or mountain-bike by yourself, or be accompanied by a ranger, and be personally part of nature. The Welgevonden game drive (3 hours) introduces you to the Big 5 area in our game viewer. Our experienced ranger will tell you all you need and want to know about our game, the abundant birdlife as well as the vegetation. The extended Welgevonden game drive (6 hours) takes you even further into Welgevonden to enjoy the bio-diversity of this magnificent reserve. During all game drives a stop will be made at a safe place for a drink and snack.

Kololo is a member of Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) and sponsor of the Waterberg Welfare Society.
