02 Sep Western airstrip
The road team has been busy for the last few weeks rebuilding the Western Airstrip.
This process was long overdue and was complicated by the original strip being “semi-sealed” which made repairs very difficult.
The team was delayed when shortly after they started the big grader that was needed to rip and break the old surface had a breakdown and the spares took about a week to arrive.
Fortunately the old sealed surface material could be used as the base and a new topping is being added and compacted at present. New drainage is being built on both sides of the strip and hopefully it will give Welgevonden members and guests arriving by air lots of good service.
Please remember both the Welgevonden airstrips are closed private strips and the Welgevonden Game Reserve Landing Procedure has to be followed in order for aircraft to land on the Reserve
