Rain and floods

Welgevonden has been blessed with good rains during November, December and January. So far this season 448mm has fallen. A few heavy showers at the end of January caused some of the access roads to the reserve to be closed mainly due to damaged or flooded bridges and washed away roads.
The waters have subsided and repairs have been carried out to again have access through all the gates although some of the gravel roads remain a bit rough.

On Welgevonden the main roads have survived well but some of the secondary roads have become difficult to traverse. The Waterberg being the Waterberg, water comes out all over and when that happens to be in or under a road it can create a muddy patch.

Broken Bridge that had been repaired and was no longer broken, unfortunately didn’t stand up to the sustained high levels of water in the Sterkstroom River and again has been breached
